Frequently Asked Questions

Patient ConvenienceBelow please read some of the common questions our patients ask us about our services and procedures, about our office or dentistry in general.

Will it hurt?

We use local anesthetic to numb the tooth before any treatment, so nothing should hurt at all.

I’m tough to numb, can you get me numb enough?

That’s a common question. Dr Khan is very good with local anesthetic and can typically get a person very very numb so there is no pain and you shouldn’t feel a thing.

Do you have that gel they use before the needle?

Yes we do! We use a topical gel before every injection to make things as painless as possible.

Do you do same day crowns?

Yes we do! Our patients love the convenience of same day crowns with our CEREC machine. We just upgraded our unit so appointments times have gotten shorter as well.

Is there metal in same day crowns?

No, none of the same day crowns we do have any metal. We typically use material which is made of a ceramic called lithium disilicate. This is a very strong material with no metal.

Do you do all of your crowns in the office?

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all mentality. Different situations require different solutions. Many times a same day crown is warranted, other times a lab made crown may be the better option. Your individual case will be evaluated and the best options will be presented to you.

What are the benefits to same day crowns?

The obvious answer is that you get your crown the same day! One visit treatment for busy individuals, and you don’t have to deal with a temporary crown.Usually a same day crown can save you valuable tooth structure. The way its bonded to the tooth means we don’t have to cut away as much tooth to make room for the crown. This gives the tooth a better long term prognosis.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is like an artificial root and tooth. Its a titanium post placed to replace the root, and a crown is placed on top to simulate a natural tooth. The final result is an esthetic and functional replacement for your missing tooth.

Is that better than a bridge?

Usually an implant is the better option, primarily because they are much easier to clean, they don’t damage the adjacent teeth, and the usually look much better.

Do they hurt?

The surgery itself should be quite painless. Once the implant is fully restored you should not have any feeling in the implant itself.

Do you do them in your office?

Yes, Dr Khan received extensive training at the Midwest Implant Institute and places implants in the office.

How much does an implant cost?

There are lots of variables to consider, but most treatment in our office ranges from $3500-$4500 to go from a missing tooth all the way to completion.

I have dentures. Can implants help me?

Absolutely. Some of the happiest patients are ones that have implants with their dentures. Adding 4-6 implants under a denture can give the denture something to snap into and keep them from being loose or falling out. If you are tired of taking dentures in and our and want a fixed solution, implants with a fixed denture can be an excellent solution for you.

Do you do braces or Invisalign at your office?

Yes, we do! We perform traditional orthodontics (braces) as well as Invisalign in our office.

Can I do Invisalign instead of braces?

Invisalign treats less complicated cases. Come in for a consultation to see if it will work in your case.

How long does it take?

Treatment ranges depending on the severity of the case and the age of the patient. Short term cosmetic treatment can be in the range of 4-8 months, while comprehensive treatment can take 1-3 years.

My orthodontist started my braces, can you finish them or do my adjustments?

Typically, its best to complete treatment with the dentist that began the treatment. Usually we would have to replace the brackets with the system we use, and its not usually worth the extra cost. We recommend continuing with your orthodontist.

Can you do my braces?

Come in for a consultation and we will determine if this is something we can treat in our office Call (614) 758-6522.

How much does it cost?

Orthodontics has many variables so its difficult to estimate online. Typical cases in our office are about $4500. Minor movement can be much less, and occasionally it may cost more if additional appliances are required for treatment.

Do I need a Root Canal?

When a nerve of a tooth gets infected or severely inflamed it can’t fix itself. The only treatment that will save the tooth is to disinfect and clean out the tooth… which is what a root canal treatment is.

I heard root canals are painful. Do root canals hurt?

Root Canals have a bad reputation, but rest assured, we will numb the tooth as much as possible. Most of our patients tell us they didn’t feel a thing. Painful root canals are a thing of the past!

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

On the molars and bicuspids / premolars, the answer is typically yes. After root canal treatment the tooth is quite weak and without a crown it will typically fail and require extractions. We generally recommend a crown after root canal treatment. An exception is a front tooth. Depending on the extent of the decay, sometimes these can be treated without needing a crown afterwards.

What can happen if I don’t get a recommended crown?

The mouth is a very tough environment for any treatment. Teeth take a lot of abuse, and a tooth that isn’t protected with a crown when one is recommended could suffer a catastrophic fracture. It may crack in a smaller way, but still allow bacteria to reinfect the tooth, resulting in the need for further treatment. Its common to see previously treat teeth to need root canal treatment a second time because the tooth didn’t get a crown when one was recommended.
